The Renaissance (or the rebirth) was a time of artistic and intellectual change. The three big ideas were humanists and courtiers, a boar for the ages ,a scholar. The English Renaissance was due to a huge cultural change in Italy. With this age came the belief that humans could accomplish anything. One person who took this to heart and truly lived by this belief was a man known as Leonardo DaVinci. Queen Elizabeth the first was a complex women who had a big impact in the Renaissance era. There was a creation of a new type of drama. The famous Shakespeare played a huge role with the coming of this drama. Through his various plays he displays the complexity and commonality of the human struggle. Shakespeare has had a profound effect on western civilization. there was a great religious change as well. A debate took place to determine if the Holy Bible should be translated in different languages. This lead to King James interpenetrating the Holy Bible in the way he saw fit. Did the Renaissance Really Happen?
According to the video created by John Green, there is a theory of the Renaissance that some of you might not even know about. the theory suggests the Renaissance didn't even happen. The idea of the Renaissance suggest that in the 15th-16th century, Europe was isolated from the rest of the world and therefore only Europe had advances in art and science which some would say doesn’t make a lot of sense. Because of the trade the “Renaissance” initiated, a lot more money came into Europe along with trade. When you think of the Renaissance, you might think of a period of time where many advances took place in a short amount of time. In fact, many of the great minds of the Renaissance actually lived hundreds of years apart. One would say their timeline of existence is similar to that of Benjamin Franklin and Stephen Hawking. We have created the idea of the renaissance because it's convenient. source |

How Greek and Latin Became Part of The English Language
It may surprise some of you that English didn't originate from either Greek or Latin roots. In fact back when the Greek and Latin languages were in their prime, they were the powerhouses of languages within the western European world. As you can imagine it was inevitable that languages were going to be influenced and that's exactly what happened with English. Because Greek and Latin words were a part of the western Renaissance in 1300-1600, it had large influence over English with was a developing language at the time. source |
Aristotle's Rules For Tragedy
In order for a piece of literature to actually be called a tragedy it has to follow a set of rules set by Aristotle back in his prime. The main character must have a tragic flaw that destroys him/her at the end. They have to have a fall of some sort. They endure uncommon suffering in other words. Then the main character realizes what he or she has done and decides to take responsibility for what they have done. The main character has to reflect humanity and the audience must identify with the main character. source |
